Commission Approves Purchase of Three New Patrol Vehicles for Sheriff's Office

The Saline County Commission has approved the purchase of three new patrol vehicles for the Sheriff's Office. During the October 1st meeting, Sheriff Roger Soldan's office sought approval to replace three marked patrol cars.

The vehicles to be replaced range in age from 2017 to 2022 and are expected to have over 125,000 miles at trade-in time. The county received four bids for the replacement vehicles, with Long McArthur of Salina submitting the lowest bid at $164,642 with trade vehicles.

The new vehicles are expected to be delivered in 4-5 months, with an additional month and a half required for upfitting. The total cost of $164,642 includes stripping equipment from the old vehicles, upfitting the new ones, and applying new striping.

The Sheriff's Office had budgeted $180,000 in the 2025 CIP account for vehicle replacements. This purchase will leave a balance of $15,357.77 in that account.

During discussion, it was clarified that the new vehicles will be Ford Explorers. One of the vehicles being replaced, a 2017 model, began as an investigator's car and was later converted to a marked patrol vehicle to increase its mileage before trade-in.

The commission voted 4-0 to approve the purchase of the three new patrol vehicles.
