City Commission Approves New Fire Station Alerting System for Station Four

City Commission Approves New Fire Station Alerting System for Station Four
Fire Chief Shane Pearson Speaking at the Salina City Commission

The Salina City Commission voted unanimously, 5-0, to approve the purchase of a Phoenix g2 fire station alerting system for Fire Station Four. The total project cost is $156,698.13.

The purchase includes $140,892.13 to US Digital Designs by Honeywell for the alerting system and $15,806 to Precision Electric for installation.

Fire Chief Shane Pierson outlined several features of the new system. Each station will only receive alerts for emergencies specific to its crews, reducing unnecessary notifications. The system uses gradual tones and light alerts designed to be less startling, while also supporting faster response times. Dispatchers will be able to continue gathering information while simultaneously dispatching crews.

The system will be installed in the new Fire Station Four. Equipment from the current station will be salvaged and maintained as backup.

This purchase completes a citywide project to install upgraded alerting systems across all four fire stations, a process that began in 2022.
