With weather forecasts expecting a wintry mix of light snow Saturday
afternoon and evening (November 25) moving through Sunday morning
(November 26), the City of Salina will be prepared to treat roadways and plow
snow or ice as needed.
City offices will be closed Thursday and Friday in observance of the
Thanksgiving Holiday.
The Streets work group will have trucks ready on standby for emergency
response as needed throughout Saturday evening and early Sunday morning.
Staff will continue to monitor weather reports and adjust the plan as needed
throughout the day and evening.
This Weekend
Our next system looks to bring precipitation from Saturday evening into
Sunday morning from west to east.
- While precipitation may start as rain, confidence is growing
that all locations see a changeover to snow, especially
towards north-central Kansas. - While a treatable event remains more likely towards Topeka,
Salina & Manhattan are now seeing equal chances between a
plow-able & treatable snow event. - Any shift in track and temperatures may change where the
rain/snow transition occurs as well as where snow
accumulations set-up. - Will see higher confidence and clearer details Friday
morning as the system comes onshore.
The public is asked to allow ample space when approaching salt trucks from
behind, as the equipment will be distributing salt to the roadway. Driving too
closely to equipment could also present additional challenges and safety
concerns for operators and other motorists.
