The City of Salina is installing a barrier at the top of Indian Rock, blocking access to the area where people typically overlook the Smoky Hill River or walk down to the waterβs edge.
Salina311 spoke with city staff on site, who confirmed that the entire overlook area is being closed off. The decision comes as a precaution due to rising river levels and a strong current. Officials say the move is intended to keep the public at a safe distance from the river, which has become a popular spot for viewing the growing driftwood pile.
Bill Burke Park remains fully closed to all vehicle traffic as river levels continue to rise. Further updates will be provided as conditions develop.
