The Salina City Commission on Monday approved a public drainage-easement dedication connected to Amazon’s new last-mile distribution facility at 1851 W. Water Well Road, advancing a required step in the Airport Industrial Center No. 3 development.
Lauren Driscoll, Director of Community Development Services, presented the item and outlined its background. The 80.42-acre tract on the south side of Water Well Road was annexed, rezoned from agricultural to I-3 Heavy Industrial, and subdivided into four lots. Amazon purchased more than 20 acres within the subdivision, where construction is already underway.
Driscoll noted that the Planning Commission approved the plat in August 2024 with six conditions, including a requirement that the Salina Airport Authority record private maintenance covenants for access, water-line easements, storm-water flow, and drainage ditches. Although the public drainage easement itself had been shown on the plat, the formal maintenance agreement still needed City Commission approval.
The agreement—prepared with the necessary legal descriptions—will run with the property permanently and carries no fiscal impact to the City.
Commissioners voted 5–0 to accept the drainage-easement dedication. No public comments were offered.
