Rolling Hills Zoo is elated to announce its 25th Anniversary, marking a remarkable quarter-century of commitment to wildlife conservation, education, and community involvement. To celebrate this significant milestone, the zoo has planned a year-long extravaganza filled with special events and activities.
The journey began on October 26, 1999, when the first 255 visitors streamed through the gates, turning Charlie Walker's dream into a reality. Initially conceived as a haven for Belgian draft horses, the Main Barn evolved into Salina's premier zoo and a key regional tourist attraction in central Kansas.
Charlie Walker, a prominent Salina entrepreneur and animal enthusiast, envisioned a zoo that would captivate, engage, and educate visitors. The 25th Anniversary Celebration will feature a captivating exhibit in the Earl Bane Gallery, offering a nostalgic look back at the zoo's infancy—a time when dreams materialized.
The Earl Bane Gallery's immersive exhibit will trace the zoo's evolution, from initial sketches to its earliest inhabitants. Visitors will embark on a historical journey, discovering the passion and determination behind the construction of the zoo and its esteemed Wildlife Museum. This exclusive experience provides a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the zoo's beginnings, spotlighting milestones and cherished residents.
Exciting Adventures Await in 2024
Rolling Hills Zoo is thrilled to introduce new events throughout the year to celebrate its 25th Anniversary. Kicking off the festivities is the much-anticipated SnoWild, a snow-filled escapade every Sunday in January. This family-friendly adventure in Hideaway Hollow Park promises snowball battles and snow fort construction with giant white LEGO blocks—an unforgettable experience without stepping foot outside!
Additional 2024 events include Two-for-One Admission from February 10 – 18th, Trivia Tales on February 29th, Silent Sundays in April, Senior Wednesdays in September, and other surprises. Fan-favorite events such as ZOOrific EGGstravaganza, Wild About Moms, Safari Breakfast, Father’s Day Car Show & Cruise, Run for the Hills, and Zoo Brew Craft Fest will also make a return.
