On Saturday, August 17, 2024, at approximately 11:17 am, a silver 2010 Dodge Ram collided with a slow-moving K&O Railroad train at a crossing on Brookville Road, south of Watkins Road. The truck, driven by 44-year-old Levi Taylor of Salina, was pulling a horse trailer when it attempted to cross the tracks.
Despite trying to swerve, Taylor was unable to stop in time, and the train, traveling at about 8 mph, struck the passenger side of the truck. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported. The trailer, which was carrying horses, was undamaged, and the horses were unharmed. The train stopped upon noticing the approaching truck and trailer.
The truck sustained minor damage, and Taylor had one passenger, who also escaped without injury.
