Baseball drops series finale to Ottawa

Kansas Wesleyan Baseball dropped the series finale with the Ottawa Braves on Monday at Alumni Park 14-4 in eight innings.

It was a scoreless game until the Coyotes got on the board first in the third inning with Cruz Oxford doubled and later scored on Alex Garcia's ground out.

Ottawa tied it in the bottom of the frame, and then took the lead in the bottom of the fourth with three runs.

The Coyotes got one back in the top of the fifth, when Zach Long walked and then scored when Jacob Williamson reached on an error.

The Braves got the run back in the bottom of the fifth, and then blew the game open with two runs in the sixth and four more in the seventh.

Zack Beatty homered in the eighth to make it 11-4, but Ottawa scored three more in the bottom of the frame to end the game.

Thalen Wright took the loss, allowing three runs on five hits with seven strikeouts in three and a third innings. The Coyotes had just two hits in the game by Beatty and Oxford.

KWU must bounce back quickly, as the Coyotes host a doubleheader with Concordia University on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Dean Evans Stadium. The games were added to the schedule last week to make-up for some games lost earlier in the season.
