SALINA, KS – August 4, 2025
Salina students return to the classroom next week, and with that comes the return of school zone speed limits throughout the city.
USD 305 classes begin Wednesday, August 13, and drivers should be prepared for reduced-speed school zones to be enforced starting that day. As always, motorists are encouraged to be alert for students walking, biking, or getting on and off buses.
Flashing school zone signs will activate on Wednesday, August 6. These lights traditionally begin flashing one week ahead of the first day of school, giving drivers time to adjust their routines and awareness before students are back on sidewalks and in crosswalks.
🚸 Traffic Safety Reminders:
- Slow down when school zone lights are flashing
- Stop for school buses in both directions when the stop arm is out and red lights are flashing
- Yield to pedestrians in all marked crosswalks
As the school year begins, Salina drivers are asked to use extra caution and allow extra time during morning and afternoon commutes.
