A bronze sculpture that captured the hearts of Salina residents has found its permanent home at the Saline County War Memorial in Sunset Park, just in time for Veterans Day.
"Going Home," created by artist Sondra L. Jonson, was installed at the memorial site after winning the 2024 SculptureTour Salina People's Choice Award. The piece was carefully craned into position by Memorial Art Company and secured to a polished black granite capstone, which reflects the surrounding landscape.
The City of Salina announced the installation this week, inviting residents to visit the sculpture during regular park hours.
The artwork adds to Salina's growing public art collection, which is showcased along the annual SculptureTour on Santa Fe Avenue. Voting is currently underway for the 2025 People's Choice Award, with ballots available along the sculpture route through December 31, 2025.
