Amazon Opens New Delivery Station in Salina, Bringing Jobs and Faster Delivery to Central Kansas

Amazon today announced the opening of a new 88,000-square-foot delivery station in Salina, creating dozens of new full- and part-time jobs and driver opportunities for the community. Located at 1851 W. Water Well Road, the facility began operations in October and will help speed up deliveries for customers throughout central Kansas.

The Salina facility is part of Amazon's broader expansion in rural America and adds to the company's $8.8 billion investment in Kansas since 2010, which has created more than 7,000 jobs statewide. The new delivery station will power the last mile of Amazon's delivery process, with packages arriving from neighboring fulfillment and sortation centers before being loaded into delivery vehicles for final delivery to customers.

"Amazon customers across central Kansas will benefit from faster delivery due to this investment, thanks to great collaboration with Salina and our Kansas Department of Commerce partners," said Jason Vangalis, Manager of Economic Development for Amazon in Kansas.

The Salina facility marked its opening with its first inbound productβ€”a LEGO Star Wars Brick-Built Logo Setβ€”and first deliveryβ€”a girl's fleece winter hat pom-pom beanie. Already, the site team has demonstrated Amazon's commitment to community engagement by partnering with Ashby House to support their mission of empowering individuals and families toward stability. Amazon employees helped clean newly remodeled apartments, organized multiple areas throughout the multi-building facility, and assisted with renovation projects by moving building supplies following Ashby House's recent grant award.

The Salina delivery station is one of three new Kansas facilities Amazon is opening this year, including locations in Garden City and Bel Aire. Collectively, the facilities are expected to create more than 300 jobs across the state. Amazon's U.S. customer fulfillment and transportation employees earn an average of more than $22 per hour nationally.

Full-time hourly employees at the Salina facility have access to comprehensive benefits starting on day one, including full health, vision and dental insurance, 401k with 50 percent company match, and up to 20 weeks of paid parental leave. Employees also have access to continuing education through Amazon's Career Choice program, which pre-pays tuition for courses in in-demand fields.

The delivery station also offers opportunities for entrepreneurs to build their own delivery businesses and for independent contractors to work flexible schedules through Amazon Flex.
