13th Annual Candy Buy Back

13th Annual Candy Buy Back

Face it. Kids get candy on Halloween. It's kinda the whole idea.

But, a local dentist made sure that kids have an alternative in the way of celebrating.

Salina Dental Arts, 1829 S Ohio, held their 13th annual Candy Buy Back over the weekend.

The idea is simple: kids bring in their Halloween candy. $3 will be exchanged for each pound of candy an individual child trades in. The child gets $2, and the remaining $1 will go to a school of the kid's choice. So, if your kid brought in 5 pounds of candy, a school would get $5 and the child would get $10.

But, it gets even better. Salina Dental Arts donates all the candy brought in to Operation Gratitude, which sends the treats to soldiers protecting our county overseas.

For the kid who brings in the most candy, a prize is won. Rumor has it that this year, the top weight was 36 pounds.

Games, crafts, and a bounce house are also brought in, giving kids once last opportunity for Halloween before the holiday season begins.
