Salina Woman Thwarts Scam Attempt After Banker's Intervention

On April 29th, authorities responded to a case of theft by deception in the 2600 block of Colonial. A 65-year-old female from Salina nearly fell victim to a scam after contacting what she thought was an Amazon customer service number online.

The scammer falsely claimed issues with her account and posed as various authorities, including the FTC and KHP, demanding a $50,000 withdrawal. Fortunately, a vigilant banker recognized the scam and intervened before any money was lost.

The victim received multiple calls from the scammer over several days, using different agency numbers each time.
