On August 30th, a physical altercation between two men in Salina led to both being arrested on multiple charges, including aggravated assault, burglary, and drug possession. The incident began around 4:15 p.m. when officers were dispatched to the area of N 9th and Stimmel Rd following a report of a confrontation between two males: Ekko Okey, 51, and Joshua Angley, 43, both of Salina.
Officers first made contact with Ekko Okey, who reported that he believed Joshua Angley had entered his vehicle without permission. Okey tracked down Angley to confront him in the area of N 9th and Stimmel Rd. According to Okey, after a verbal exchange with Angley, he exited his vehicle armed with a BB gun. Okey claimed that Angley had made a threatening comment, either suggesting he would "put a bullet in [Okey's] head" or that he would "whoop [Okey's] ass." In response, Okey stated he confronted Angley and shot him 5-7 times in the chest area with the BB gun. No arrests were made at that initial contact.
Officers then visited The Budget Hotel at 222 E Diamond Dr., where Okey was staying. The hotel management provided surveillance footage showing Angley entering Okey's vehicle and possibly removing an item, believed to be a piece of clothing. Despite this, Okey stated he "didn't know anything was missing from his vehicle." After reviewing the evidence, officers decided to arrest Okey for aggravated assault and battery.
The officers then proceeded to The Budget King Motel at 809 N Broadway, where Angley was staying, to arrest him for burglary of a vehicle and theft. Upon their arrival, Angley attempted to flee, but officers were able to apprehend him. During the arrest, Angley was found in possession of a small amount of methamphetamine. He was subsequently charged with burglary of a vehicle, theft, interference with law enforcement, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
