FALUN, KS
Falun is a small unincorporated community situated in the Smoky Hills region of Kansas. It is surrounded by rolling hills and agricultural fields located approximately 20-25 minutes southwest of Salina.
With a very small population of 90 based on projections from the latestest 2024 census estimates, the town is primarily a residential area, with a few local businesses. Most of the area is based on agriculture & farming as the basis of the economy.
In 1868-1869, a group of immigrating Swedish adults and children settled in the area. By 1871, the settlers organized the Falun Township, under the leadership of Eric Fors and naming the town after Fors' home in Sweden.
Children in Falun and the surrounding areas typically attend schools in Salina or Lindsborg, as the community does not have its own school system.
In 1887, the Falun Lutheran Church was organized. In its prime, it served 300 people.
