County Commission Approves Change Order for Livestock & Expo Center Concrete Work

During their February 20, 2024 meeting, the County Commission addressed a concern in changing concrete work at the Livestock & Expo Center. Initially awarded to Smoky Hill Construction for $174,000 on August 8th, 2023, the project aimed to upgrade the animal wash station and improve drainage between Barns 5 & 6 to mitigate erosion.

However, following the installation of drainage structures, a significant gap between the barns and the structures was identified, necessitating additional measures to prevent dirt washout. The proposed change order involves the installation of concrete curb-like structures on each side of the drainage to address this issue, requiring approximately 300 linear feet of concrete at an additional cost not exceeding $13,200.

After deliberation, the Commission approved the change order, as recommended by Hutton and Smoky Hill Construction. The added expense will be drawn from the Livestock & Expo Center's 2024 Capital Improvement Program budget of $218,947.
