Salina, KS – July 2, 2025 — Week 5 of the Salina Family YMCA Summer Day Camp is in full swing, and it’s already been an unforgettable adventure! Campers have been diving into a week packed with fun, learning, and hands-on experiences, and the summer is only halfway through.
The excitement kicked off with a special visit from the Saline County Mounty Patrol, who brought their horses to meet the campers. Kids learned how these officers serve the community on horseback and even got a look at how the patrol performs land and water rescues using scuba gear.
Campers also welcomed some wild guests from the Rolling Hills Zoo, who introduced a variety of animals, some soft and furry, others a bit more scaly! The visit brought wildlife up close and personal, sparking curiosity and plenty of wide-eyed wonder.
To top it off, the camp hit the road for a field trip to the Sedgwick County Zoo, where kids explored global habitats, observed exotic animals, and learned about the importance of conservation. It was a full-scale safari adventure that left lasting impressions on everyone.
“These kids are having the time of their lives,” said Chris Lehecka, CEO of the Salina Family YMCA. “We’re not just filling time, we’re filling hearts, minds, and memories. This is what summer should be all about.”
With several weeks of camp still to come, the adventures are far from over. From science and nature to sports and classic summer fun, every day at the YMCA brings something new for campers to explore and enjoy.
