Stryten Energy Celebrates 50 Years of Manufacturing Excellence in Salina, Kansas

The company honors a half-century of energy innovation and resilience, environmental leadership and hometown pride.

Stryten Energy LLC, a U.S.-based energy storage solutions provider, proudly celebrates the 50-year anniversary of its battery manufacturing plant in Salina, Kansas.

For five decades, the Salina battery plant has powered automotive, marine/RV, heavy duty trucks and lawn and garden applications while positively impacting the lives and livelihoods of the surrounding community. What began as a modest operation has become a cornerstone of Stryten Energy’s national manufacturing network, exemplifying innovation, growth and a steadfast commitment to its people.

As one of the largest lead battery production facilities in the U.S., the plant has undergone significant transformation, shifting from manual lead grid casting to utilizing automated punch grid and assembly systems to improve efficiency, safety and ergonomics. It has introduced advanced battery products, such as Enhanced Flooded Batteries (EFBs), to meet the demands of modern start-stop and hybrid vehicles, reflecting industry advancements.

The Salina plant’s workforce is the backbone of its success, with many employees dedicating decades of service − some approaching 50 years. Doug Warner, who joined the company at age 17, exemplifies this dedication as a long-standing member of the maintenance team. “I’ve grown up working here, building strong relationships and camaraderie with my teammates. Together, we ensure everything runs smoothly,” Warner shared. The culture of mentorship, teamwork and loyalty is further enriched by multi-generational families who have proudly contributed to the plant’s legacy.

As one of Salina’s largest employers, supporting approximately 700 hourly and salaried jobs, the plant fosters community connections through meaningful initiatives. Team members volunteer annually at the Smoky Hill River Festival, continuing a tradition of more than a decade, and they are one of the largest contributors to Project Salina’s annual food drive, addressing local food insecurity.

Stryten Energy is equally committed to cultivating the next generation of talent, actively recruiting for specialized roles such as electrical control technicians, engineering managers and operations leaders. The company invests in workforce development through tuition reimbursement, certifications and a partnership in development with a local technical school to establish an automation maintenance program.

“The 50-year celebration of the Salina battery manufacturing plant highlights its impact as a pioneer in energy innovation, an advocate for environmental progress and a trusted community partner,” said Jeremiah Atkinson, Salina Plant Manager.
