Act I: Campbell Plaza Overhead Structure Relocated

The Campbell Plaza overhead structure has moved to an even larger stage area.

Formally located just south of 123 S Santa Fe, the overhead structure was uniquely designed to match the four overhead structures located at midblock crosswalks along Santa Fe. The Plaza structure is wired to light up with the crosswalk overhead structures, all after sunset.

A stage was set around Campbell Plaza, which over the years has hosted events such as dance performances, local arts, acts, and musical talents.

With the Downtown construction project finished, the plan was to continue concerts within Campbell Plaza. However, that idea took a different direction when a new restaurant began to take shape at 123 S Santa Fe.

The Prickly Pear Grill & Cantina is set to open within this space, with a target date of this Fall. Construction plans for this new restaurant include a two-story dining area, as well as patio seating.

Because the patio seating does not include space for the overhead structure, it naturally had to be moved.

At a City Commission meeting this past Summer, City staff and Salina Arts & Humanities presented a plan to Commissioners to relocate the overhead structure to the parking lot of Ad Astra Books & Coffee House, or at the corner of Santa Fe and Ash.

With a plan in place, the structure was trucked to its new home. A flatbed semi-trailer hauled the massive piece up 5th St, around Ash St, and set it down in the parking lot.

The parking lot will eventually be redone, but the immediate need calls for the structure poles to be set in concrete.

Once this project is complete, it looks to be an awesome outdoor concert stage.
