Southeast of Saline Introduces New Head Volleyball Coach Yanez
The Southeast of Saline Athletic Department has welcomed Julianna Yanez as the new head coach for the volleyball program. Yanez brings a wealth of experience as both a player and coach and is looking forward to leading the Trojans in the upcoming season.
Family Background
Julianna Yanez is supported by her family, which includes her two brothers, Gabriel and Jacob, her little sister Joy, and her mother and grandmother, Jeri and Martha, who all live in Wichita. Although her father passed away in 2021, Yanez credits his influence and the unwavering support of her extended family as a guiding light in her life.
Playing and Coaching Experience
Yanez’s volleyball journey began in high school, where she played for various clubs around Wichita and attended Kapaun Mt. Carmel. She continued her volleyball career at McPherson College from 2017-2021. During her time with the Bulldogs, Yanez contributed to the team’s first KCAC conference championship and a win in the opening round of the 2018 NAIA Women’s Volleyball National Tournament. The program finished that season with a 34-4 overall record and a 12-0 mark in the KCAC.
After graduating, Yanez coached at a local club in Wichita and spent a season coaching at Wichita West High School. She took a year off for family reasons before joining the Men’s Volleyball program at Kansas Wesleyan as an assistant coach in August 2022, where she continues to coach.
Coaching Philosophy
Yanez is motivated by the opportunity to guide and support athletes in reaching their goals. She believes in sharing her knowledge to help players grow not only in volleyball but in life as well.
Inspiration to Coach
Yanez’s father has been her inspiration to pursue coaching. She recalls his natural leadership within their family, his encouragement to always strive for their best, his resilience, and his unwavering support as key influences in her decision to become a coach.
Expectations for the Season
As she steps into her new role, Yanez hopes to foster a season of growth, strong teamwork, and a positive atmosphere where every player feels valued and motivated to improve.
Memorable Coaching Moment
One of Yanez’s most memorable moments in coaching came during a post-season tournament when her team faced Ottawa University in the first round. Winning 3-1 in front of a home crowd to advance to the second round of GPAC tournament play for the first time was a highlight in her coaching career.
Julianna Yanez now takes the helm of the Southeast of Saline volleyball program, bringing her experience, passion, and family-inspired leadership to the team.
