Smoky Hill Museum Street Fair to Bring Old West to Life on September 28
Step back in time for a taste of the Old West at the Smoky Hill Museum Street Fair on Saturday, September 28, in downtown Salina. This free, family-friendly event offers a full day of festivities, fun, and food, centered around the Smoky Hill Museum at 211 W. Iron Avenue.
The day kicks off with a parade down Santa Fe Avenue at 10:00 a.m., followed by a variety of Old West-themed activities. Attendees can experience stagecoach rides, historical demonstrations, free make-and-take crafts, caricature artists, and airbrush tattoos, while local chefs compete in a chili cook-off.
Public chili tasting and voting will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for $2, with winners announced at 2:00 p.m. on the main stage.
Main Stage Entertainment:
- 11:00 a.m.: Steel Skarecrow featuring Jared Brown and the Dirt Road Misfits
- 12:00 p.m.: Jake Gill’s high-energy country music performance
- 1:00 p.m.: Eating contests
- 2:00 p.m.: Chili Cook-off winners announced
- 2:15 p.m.: David Zerf performs Kansas cowboy and pioneer tunes
- 3:00 p.m.: Steel Skarecrow returns to close out the entertainment
The Smoky Hill Museum will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., showcasing exhibits and the Museum Store, featuring Kansas-made products and local artwork.
