Shed Fire on Old 40 Highway Suspected to Have Started from Unauthorized Controlled Burn
On July 22, at around 5:15 pm, sheriff’s deputies responded to a shed fire at the 1800 block of East Old 40 Highway. The shed, measuring 15 feet by 40 feet, was fully engulfed in flames. The fire caused an estimated $10,000 loss in the shed and $1,500 worth of tools. Additionally, the fire spread to a nearby old camper, further increasing the damage.
Evidence at the scene suggested that the fire may have been started by an unauthorized controlled burn, with remnants of lumber, timber, and tree limbs found at the site. The landowner, who had not been present for a week, was unaware of the burn. The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
