Shalimar Shepherds Bring Holiday Cheer
It was a short weekend packed with lots of excitement on Shalimar Drive.
The 5th annual gathering of the neighbors for Shalimar Shepherds brought Christmas joy to 3,500 people this past weekend. The three-day event was located in the 2250-2260 block of Shalimar Dr, in south Salina.
Visitors park their vehicles, and walk around the neighborhood to see houses strung with Christmas lights in various displays. Kids waited in line to visit with Santa and receive a special treat. Cindy Lou Who and Mr Grinch were directing foot traffic.
On the other side of the street, the Shepherds who started it all were seated in a live nativity scene. Three goats and a pony were penned while children took pictures beside them. People could also get close, but not too close, to a falcon wearing a Santa hat perched upon a Shepherd's forearm.
New this year, the neighbors brought in live musical entertainment. Randy Baldwin & Friends opened the weekend on Friday. Saturday had Anna P.S. sing the evening away. Finally, the weekend was closed out by the musical entertainment of Rachelle Goter & Family.
Shalimar Shepherds bring visitors Christmas entertainment and joy each year. The fun is free, and any donations are given directly to Salina Guns & Hoses, a non-profit organization within Salina.
Although the season for Shalimar Shepherds is over, you can still follow them throughout the year and find out what they're up to for next year, by following their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/SHALIMARSHEPHERDS.
