Salina Tech Offering Free Dental Hygiene Services for Kids
Salina Area Technical College is hosting a free dental clinic for children ages 3-15 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, February 10 on the college campus.
The “Give Kids a Smile” clinic will include services such as dental exams, teeth cleanings, x-rays, fluoride treatments and sealants, with the college’s Dental Hygiene students performing the services under the supervision of licensed dental hygienists and dentists.
Besides the dental services, children attending the clinic will learn about proper brushing and flossing.
The clinic is not taking appointments; services will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis that day.
Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
“February is Dental Hygiene Month, and our training requires us to get experience working with children,” said Miranda Krueger, a second-year Dental Hygiene student. “As a class, we were talking about ways we could help the underserved community, and this was a good way to do that.”
Salina Tech launched a community dental hygiene clinic in January of 2023 so students in the college’s new Dental Hygiene program could gain experience working with patients. In its first year, the clinic treated 671 patients, providing cleanings, x-rays, sealants and whitening, with most visits costing just $20.
