Salina Symphony to Kick Off Season with Chamber Music in the Courtyard

The Salina Symphony invites the community to welcome the autumn season with a special outdoor performance, "Chamber Music in the Courtyard," set for Saturday, September 28, at 4 p.m. The event will be held at the Homewood Suites in Downtown Salina, offering an enchanting blend of classical and contemporary music in a picturesque setting.

The afternoon will feature a captivating program by the Salina Symphony flute quartet, led by principal flutist Lillian Oeding, who will perform Mozart’s Flute Quartet in D major. This piece, known for its elegance and charm, is a perfect showcase of Oeding’s skill and artistry.

In addition to the flute quartet, attendees will enjoy a performance of one of Mozart's most beloved chamber works, Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, by a string quartet that includes Maestro Segal himself. The timeless beauty of this piece is sure to resonate with audiences, making it a highlight of the evening.

The program will also feature a performance by the Symphony’s woodwind quintet, presenting The Melting Pot by Alyssa Morris, associate professor of oboe at Kansas State University. This contemporary work, with its movements titled “Bubbly,” “Sweet,” and “Crunchy,” offers a delightful contrast to the classical pieces, showcasing the versatility and range of the Symphony’s musicians.

Tickets for the event are priced at $49 per person and are available for purchase at the Symphony Office, by calling 785-823-8309, or online at salinasymphony.org. This concert promises to be a delightful start to the Symphony's new season, blending the beauty of autumn with the richness of chamber music.

For those unable to attend the Salina performance, the Symphony will present the same program on Friday, September 27, at 7:30 p.m. at the C.L. Hoover Opera House in Junction City. More details and ticket information for this event can also be found at salinasymphony.org.
