Salina, KS — The results are in for this year’s STAMP OUT HUNGER Food Drive, and the impact is significant.
The Salina Emergency Aid Food Bank, in partnership with the National Association of Letter Carriers, proudly reports that over 19,000 pounds of food were collected during the community-wide drive held this past Saturday.
“We are incredibly grateful to every letter carrier, Food Bank staff member, and volunteer who made this effort possible,” said Karen Couch, Executive Director of the Food Bank. “More than 300 hours of volunteer time went into collecting, sorting, and processing donations. This drive helps us keep our shelves stocked during the high-demand summer months.”
The Salina Food Bank depends heavily on events like STAMP OUT HUNGER to supplement food rescued from retailers and purchases made through the Kansas Food Bank in Wichita. In fact, donation drives account for roughly 30% of the Food Bank’s annual food supply.
Couch emphasized the importance of community partnerships:
“Without support from local organizations and residents who coordinate food drives, we would be forced to further limit access to our programs. Every effort—big or small—makes a difference.”
