Salina Police Arrest Driver for Firing Shots During Road Rage Incident on I-135
Osbourn, Nicholas Charles

Salina, KS – A 34-year-old man from Solomon, Kansas, was arrested Saturday afternoon following a road rage incident on Interstate 135, where he brandished a firearm and discharged it multiple times at another vehicle. The suspect, identified as Nicholas Osborne, is facing charges of aggravated assault, criminal discharge of a firearm, reckless driving, and being a pedestrian on the interstate.

The incident began around 1:00 p.m. near the Schilling Road exit on I-135 when Osborne, driving a 1996 Chevy 1500 black pickup truck, reportedly began tailgating a couple from Concordia. The couple, whose names have not been released, told authorities they had merged into traffic ahead of Osborne, prompting him to follow them aggressively.

Osborne attempted to pass the couple but became increasingly agitated and brandished a firearm, identified as a .22-caliber revolver. As he passed their vehicle, Osborne allegedly waved the gun at them before firing multiple shots through the rear window of his truck. No injuries were reported.

The altercation continued until Osborne pulled over near mile marker 95, approximately six miles from the initial encounter. The couple, fearing for their safety, stopped their vehicle as Osborne exited his truck and began approaching them while holding the firearm. At this time, another older couple passing by stopped to check on the situation.

Witnesses reported traffic slowing as Osborne, still armed, approached the couple. When confronted by the second couple, Osborne admitted to having shot at someone but was unsure if he had hit his intended target.

Salina police arrived on the scene shortly after, arresting Osborne without further incident. He was still near his truck when law enforcement arrived.

Osborne now faces multiple felony charges related to the incident which include two counts of aggravated assault, criminal discharge of a firearm, reckless driving, and being a pedestrian on the interstate. The investigation remains ongoing, but authorities have confirmed that no one was injured as a result of the shooting.
