Salina Man Arrested After Brief Pursuit

A Salina man was arrested after leading police on a slow-speed pursuit.

At 1:10 am on Thursday, December 23, it's reported that an officer observed a silver 2006 Nissan Altima traveling in the 300 block of S 4th St. The vehicle's tag was not on file when the officer ran it.

The officer reportedly attempted to stop the vehicle. The driver was said to have continued driving, disregarding the officer's attempts to stop him. A slow-speed pursuit was initiated.

Stop sticks were deployed at Des Moines and Elm St. The vehicle was disabled and came to a stop at the 300 block of N Columbia, in the middle of the street. The driver reportedly fled on foot.

During the pursuit, in the 300 block of Oakdale, the officer observed a white object allegedly thrown from the vehicle. This was later found to be methamphetamine. SPD reports that the three chunks that were located weighed a total of 18.4 grams.

The driver was apprehended a short distance from the vehicle after a K9 was deployed by the officer.

The driver was identified as Deric Bell, Sr., a 30-year-old male from Salina. Bell was said to be driving on a revoked license. He was arrested on the following requested charges:

  • Possession of methamphetamine
  • No drug tax stamp
  • Flee & Elude
  • Interference with a law enforcement officer
  • Driving while suspended, 2nd conviction
  • Driving while habitual violator
  • No proof of insurance
  • Illegal vehicle registration
  • Littering
