Man Arrested After Standoff at Salina Hotel Following Attempted Break-in

A man was arrested Tuesday morning following a nearly two-hour standoff at Candlewood Suites in Salina after allegedly threatening multiple people with a knife, including a police officer.

Chase Mann was taken into custody at 11:58 AM after SWAT team members used a less-lethal rubber projectile to gain compliance.

The incident began around 10:00 AM when police responded to reports of a man attempting to force entry into the Goodwill store at 2640 Planet Avenue.

According to police, Mann was allegedly trying to pry open the front door with a knife while demanding clothing from employees inside. When officers arrived, Mann reportedly pointed a pocketknife at an officer before fleeing to the nearby Candlewood Suites hotel.

Inside the hotel, Mann entered an occupied room being cleaned by three female housekeeping staff members, aged 25, 40, and 57. Police say he threatened the workers with a knife before damaging the room's television, walls, and furniture, causing an estimated $1,500 in damage. The employees were able to escape when Mann barricaded himself inside.

Negotiators attempted to resolve the situation peacefully. When negotiations failed, SWAT officers accessed the room through an exterior window and found Mann lying on the bed. After he failed to comply with verbal commands, officers deployed a rubber projectile, which struck his leg and led to his surrender.

Mann was treated at a local hospital for a bruise from the projectile before being booked into the Saline County Jail. He was arrested on multiple charges including aggravated burglary, three counts of aggravated assault, aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer, three counts of criminal threat, felony interference with law enforcement, felony property damage, criminal trespass, disorderly conduct, and theft of services.

No other injuries were reported in the incident.
