SALINA, Kan. — Egg prices in Salina are climbing as a bird flu outbreak disrupts poultry supplies nationwide. At Dillon’s on Cloud Street, Kroger-brand eggs now cost $4.59 per dozen, and purchases are limited to two cartons per customer.
Salina311 spoke with Dillon’s management, who confirmed the limit is directly due to the national egg shortage caused by Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI). The outbreak has led to the loss of millions of egg-laying hens across the U.S., including over 20 million in late 2024.
Local residents are adapting to the higher costs and purchase restrictions as the shortage continues. Salina311 will provide updates on the situation.
