Today, a routine patrol by Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper Mullins turned into a six-hour effort to assist a stranded church group on I-70 in Dickinson County, highlighting the importance of vehicle preparedness.
At 8:17 a.m., Trooper Mullins came upon a bus stranded in the median at mile marker 284 eastbound on I-70. The bus, carrying approximately 20 members of a church group from Salina, had blown both front tires while returning home from a trip to Kentucky.
Despite several calls to local towing companies, no one had the equipment necessary to tow the bus. Trooper Mullins advised the group to arrange alternative transportation for the passengers and took the initiative to contact Donβs Tire in Abilene for assistance.
Even on his day off, a representative from Donβs Tire responded to the call and went above and beyond by coming out to change the tires. Thanks to his efforts, the group was able to get back on the road safely.
During the six hours it took to address the situation, Trooper Mullins managed traffic control to ensure the safety of all involved. By late afternoon, the bus was repaired, and the church group was on their way home.
Thank you to the Kansas Highway Patrol for your service.
