Revitalizing Our Community: SPA's Vision for the Salina Animal Shelter Enhancement
Representatives from Shelter Planners of America (SPA) recently conducted a comprehensive tour of a local animal shelter, laying the groundwork for an ambitious expansion project. The plans, which are currently in the assessment phase, aim to enhance the facility's functionality and better serve both staff and animals.
Key components of the expansion plan include the addition of new offices and dedicated areas for animals and staff. This strategic redesign seeks to improve the ease of use for shelter employees while providing a more distinct separation of duties. Among the proposed enhancements are designated drop-off and pickup areas, as well as spaces for issuing citations, streamlining operations and enhancing efficiency.
The next phase of the process will involve engaging architectural services to develop detailed plans, which will then be presented to city officials for approval.
In a move to accommodate the expansion, the existing public dog park, located behind the shelter, will be relocated to a new area near its current location. Specifically, plans are underway to establish a new public dog park on the north side of the Carver Center, while the current space will be repurposed exclusively for shelter dogs, ensuring they have ample space to thrive.
As the project progresses, community stakeholders eagerly anticipate the positive impact it will have on both animal welfare and the local community at large.
