Relay for Life was filled with remembrance and honor as the annual event took place under the theme "A Cure Would Be Sweet." The community came together to support the cause on Kansas Wesleyan University's campus.

The fundraising efforts for this year's Relay for Life have already yielded an impressive total of $33,021.38, and organizers have set their sights on reaching a goal of $50,000 by the end of 2023. On the day of the relay, a substantial sum of $7,342 was raised through generous donations and a silent auction.

The event was not only a fundraising success but also a heartfelt tribute to those affected by cancer, whether by memory, in honor of someone, a family member, or a caregiver. Over 400 luminaria lined the walk path, honoring the memories of loved ones and offering hope for a brighter future. This was a remarkable increase from last year's 250 luminaria, demonstrating the growing support for the cause.

In addition to the luminaria, a delightful dessert bar was made available, providing a sweet treat for those who have bravely faced cancer.

The event showcased the unity of the community, as eleven different Relay teams participated in the event. This year a live band, FedUp, entertained the attendees.

Three talented twirler and dance troupes also delighted attendees. Taylor's Twirlers, Shannon's Stars, and the Tamara Howe School of Dance wowed the audience with their graceful routines and synchronized movements. Their captivating performances highlighted their diverse talents.

Attendees of the Relay for Life event had the opportunity to savor delicious food from the Food by Bonnie food truck, which was conveniently located onsite.

The efforts to raise funds for the 2023 goal will continue beyond the Relay itself, as teams are encouraged to host further fundraisers in the coming months. Donations can be made online at relay.org/salinecoks, ensuring that individuals can contribute to the cause at their convenience. Additionally, various restaurant fundraisers will be held around Salina in the near future.
