Pair Arrested After Weekend Chase in Saline County

A vehicle pursuit in parts of western Saline County leads to the arrest of two over the weekend.

On Saturday, August 12 at 11:22 pm, an officer was in the 1700 block of Centennial, and observed a Chevy Silverado ahead with an apparent expired registration. The officer also had knowledge of the registered owner of the vehicle having a felony warrant for their arrest, although the officer was unable to identify the driver at that point.

The officer attempted a stop for the expired tag, however, the driver didn't stop. The driver continued, traveling the following route:

• northbound on Centennial, speeds of 85 mph
• westbound on Crawford, speeds of 100 mph
• southbound on Halstead to Cloud to the dead end

The vehicle then turned into a driveway in the 2000 block of Halstead, where both the driver and passenger fled. Officers gave chase, and were able to arrest both subjects in a field after they jumped some fences.

The driver was identified as 25-year-old Deaven Williamson from Salina. He was arrested on the requested charges of felony flee and elude, felony interference with law enforcement officer, no turn signal, failure to stop at a stop sign, driving while suspended, and criminal trespass. Williamson also had a Saline County District Court warrant for probation violation.

The passenger was identified as 21-year-old Maliya Navarro-Fields from Wichita. She was arrested on the requested charges of felony interference with law enforcement officer and criminal trespass. Navarro-Fields also had a Saline County District Court Warrant and a Salina Municipal Court Warrant, both for failure to appear.
