On April 7th, the Salina Police Department released information stating that over the last five years 89% of all reported crime has been theft of property. Tips to safeguard personal property were released by the SPD as well.

In response to this information, numerous Salina citizens reached out to Salina311 to inquire about the neighborhood watch program that was once in effect. A handful requested for Salina311 to collect information regarding the neighborhood watch program, a task that was formerly handled by the SPD.

Salina311 reached out to the SPD and asked, "What is the Salina Police Department's stance on the neighborhood watch program?" Captain Paul Forrester with the SPD replied, "We no longer have a neighborhood watch program. It has not been in existence for several years now."

In addition, the following questions were asked, to which the Salina Police Department had no comment.

• "If a neighborhood starts a watch, do they need to register with the SPD?"

• "Would the SPD like to see the neighborhood watch program start again?"

If you would like to enquire about a possible neighborhood watch program being brought back to Salina you can contact the Salina Police Department at 785-826-7210.
