KWU Men’s Volleyball Falls in Close Match with Dordt
Kansas Wesleyan Men's Volleyball dropped a closely contested three-set match to the Dordt Defenders 25-22, 29-27, 26-24 at Dordt.
The Coyotes led 5-3 in the first set but Dordt scored four straight to take a 7-5 lead. KWU battled back and tied It at 8-8 on a block by Cooper Stepp, and the Coyotes tied it again at 13-all on a service ace by Jeremy Lapeze.
Three straight by Dordt gave the Defenders a 16-13 lead, but the Coyotes answered right back with three straight to tie it again. KWU built a 20-18 lead on a block by Stepp and Ryan Wagner, but again Dordt rallied and took a 22-21 lead. KWU tied it at 22, but Dordt got the last three points of the set to win.
The second set started out going back and forth, but the Coyotes pushed out to a 21-13 advantage in the set on a kill by Justin Burras. Dordt cut the difference to three at 21-18, and after a KWU point, the Defenders got three more to get within a point. The Coyotes scored two points to set up a set point try, but Dordt tied it at 24. The Coyotes had several more set point tries, but Dordt would tie it at 27 and score the final two points to get the 29-27 win.
KWU built a 15-10 lead in the third set but Dordt got four straight points to make it 15-14. KWU led 21-17 and again had set point at 24-20, but Dordt would force extra points again, coming away with the 26-24 win.
Burras had 14 kills to lead the Coyotes, while Kahlib Lawrence had 10 and Zayin Martinez had eight. Tyler McUne had 22 assists and eight digs. Lapeze had 10 digs. Stepp and Wagner had three blocks each.
KWU is back at home on Friday, as the Coyotes host Ottawa University at 6 p.m. inside Mabee Arena.
