KWU Men’s Soccer Closes Regular Season with 4-2 Win Over Southwestern
Kansas Wesleyan Men's Soccer capped a successful regular season with a 4-2 win over Southwestern at JRI Stadium at the Graves Family Sports Complex.
The start of the match was delayed by about 30 minutes due to a brief thunderstorm that came through the area, prompting senior recognitions to be moved and the start delayed of the match.
Having the No. 3 seed locked in, the Coyotes rested a few key players in the match and limited playing time of others.
Southwestern got the first goal in the 28th minute on an own goal as a bad clearance by the Coyotes on the back line found its way into the net.
Just five minutes later the Coyotes got the equalizer on a bizarre play. Southwestern's keeper mishandled the ball, picking it up twice resulting in a KWU indirect kick from just about 10 yards out from goal. The played ball the by the Coyotes hit the cross bar and went off some Southwestern players before bouncing to Sebastian Fernandez, who knocked it high in the air back towards goal but was able to fine an opening for the score.
The 1-1 score remained to the half.
In the 49th minute, Southwestern went down a player on a second caution ejection, and had to play with 10 the rest of the match.
In the 52nd minute the Coyotes grabbed the lead as Abaenya Nundu scored it for the Coyotes. Ali got the ball in the box and avoided half of Southwestern's defense before scoring it just outside the near post giving KWU a 2-1 lead.
Southwestern tied it in the 70th minute, but less than 45 seconds later a hand ball in the box resulted in a KWU penalty that was converted by Kamille Kum giving the Coyotes the lead 3-2.
Tristan Bayssade capped the scoring for the Coyotes with a goal in the 82nd minute.
KWU outshot Southwestern 15-8 in the match led by four from Nundu.
