Kansas Wesleyan Men's Basketball rallied from a 15-point halftime deficit, but came up just short as the Coyotes fell to the Peru State Bobcats on Saturday on the second day of the Bethel Classic at Thresher Gym.
Peru led by 18 with 14:33 left in the game and were up 16 with 11:21 left at 63-47 when Wesleyan started its rally. A 10-0 run by the Coyotes cut the difference to six at 63-57 with 8:42 left.
The Bobcats rebuilt a 13 point lead at 70-57 with 7:13 left when the Coyotes pressed again, cutting it to five at 71-66 on Jun Murdock's free throws with 3:57 left.
Wesleyan got as close as three at 77-74 and again at 82-79 but could not get any closer.
The game was tight in the first half until Peru State went on a 9-0 run to push the lead out to 18 at 42-24 with 53 seconds left before the half.
Murdock had another huge game scoring 30 for the Coyotes while Thurbil Bile scored 17 and Caden Hale had 10.
Wesleyan was 28 of 62 shooting for the game for 45.2 percent, and hit 19 of 25 free throws in the second half.
The Coyotes are back in action with a pair of home games next week to open KCAC play. KWU hosts Friends on Wednesday at 8 p.m., and welcomes conference newcomer Evangel to Mabee Arena next Saturday at 7 p.m.
