Kansas Highway Patrol CS Gas Exposure Training Affects Salina Country Club Pool

On June 6th the Kansas Highway Patrol Training Academy was conducting CS gas exposure training exercises, which are designed to equip KHP officers to withstand CS gas exposure.

During the training, CS gas is released in a tent and was exposing new troopers to the substance so they could learn the effects and how to cope with them. Due to weather conditions including (low wind and high humidity), the CS gas that escaped the tent did not dissipate and a cloud of the gas settled over the pool area at the Salina Country Club, located next to the KHP Training Center.

The KHP Training Academy has issued a directive that has banned any future CS gas training on campus due to the incident.
