Kansas State University Salina is set to host its eighth annual Girls in Aviation Day on Saturday, September 21, offering K-12 students and their guardians a free, immersive experience into the world of aviation. The event, organized by the student group Women in Aviation, aims to inspire and educate young girls about aviation and aerospace careers.
The event will take place from 8:30 a.m. to noon in the K-State Salina Aviation Maintenance Hangar at 245 Hein Ave. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in hands-on activities, including flight simulations and a build-your-own airport project, and hear from a guest speaker. The event also provides a platform for attendees to connect with other youth and aviation professionals.
Girls in Aviation Day is part of K-State Salina's ongoing efforts to encourage more female representation in the aviation industry. It allows young aviation enthusiasts to interact with students and faculty, offering a glimpse into the life of aerospace professionals.
"Girls in Aviation Day is important to our club, Women in Aviation, because we help inspire and empower young girls in the community to consider careers in the aviation and aerospace industries," said Laikyn LeFever, a sophomore in aviation maintenance management and professional pilot. "This day provides opportunities for girls to meet female role models and helps break down stereotypes, encouraging more women to thrive in these traditionally male-dominated fields."
