This building was the first location of the National Bank of America. The institution that became the National Bank of America was founded on January 5, 1887, when the American State Bank opened at Santa Fe and Ash. The bank’s name was changed to the American National Bank in 1890 and then to the National Bank of America in 1894. In 1902, they would move to the Watson building at the northeast corner of Santa Fe and Iron. Photograph from Museum’s Collection, c1890
