Salina Public Schools (SPS) is hosting a Summer Kindergarten Roundup on Tuesday, June 27 to help parents and guardians of incoming kindergartners get ready for the start of school. The event will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the District Office, 1511 Gypsum Avenue.

“Summer Roundup will allow families from any Salina neighborhood to register their child for kindergarten at one central location,” explained Krista Linenberger, director of elementary programs. “Families who missed the April roundups can register their child early instead of waiting until elementary schools re-open after the break.”

At the event, parents/guardians will receive free books, information about health requirements for entering school and resources, details about the SPS handwriting curriculum and helpful tips to get children ready for kindergarten. Materials and resources from the Salina Public Library and the Kansas Sunflower Summer program will be available as well.

The event is free and open to families of unregistered kindergarten-age children who reside within the Salina School District boundaries. Children must be five years old by August 31 to enroll.

An interpreter will be available for Spanish-speaking families.
