Fire Destroys Normal University in 1904

On September 4, 1904, Salina Normal University was destroyed by a fire. The university was established and opened in 1884. The building had one wing for dorms and one wing for classrooms. Salina Normal would reach an enrollment of 600 students. The university decided not to rebuild and many of the students transferred to Kansas Wesleyan Business College. Salina Normal was located along College Ave. between State St. and University Pl.
