Driver Crashes into Road Construction

On Thursday, August 3 at 8:56 pm, first responders were sent to the area of Crawford St and Plaza Dr, for a vehile that had crashed into a marked construction zone.

A red 2014 Ford F150 pickup, owned and driven by a man identified as 52-year-old Scott Herbel, was reportedly driving eastbound on Crawford. Road construction is set up in the area, with a big hole in the road and a large dirt pile, blocked off with cones. Herbel reportedly drove through the cones and up onto a 4ft high pile of dirt.

Officers arrived to find the Ford high centered on the dirt pile. An investigation allegedly showed that Herbel might have been under the influence. After a search of the vehicle, officers allegedly located Smith & Wesson M&P 9mm handgun, which was reportedly stolen out of Ottawa County.

Herbel has the following requested charges:

  • DUI
  • Possession of Firearm while Under the Influence
  • Possession of Stolen Property
  • Improper Driving on Laned Roadway
  • No Proof of Insurance
  • No License
