December Kansas Grain & Hay Stocks
Kansas corn stocks in all positions on December 1, 2024 totaled 464 million bushels, up 20% from 2023, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Of the total, 170 million bushels are stored on farms, up 6% from a year ago. Off-farm stocks, at 294 million bushels, are up 29% from last year.
Wheat stored in all positions totaled 280 million bushels, up 33% from a year ago. On-farm stocks of 15.0 million bushels are up 50% from 2023, and off-farm stocks of 265 million bushels are up 32% from last year.
Sorghum stored in all positions totaled 151 million bushels, up 21% from last year. On-farm stocks of 20.0 million bushels are down 13% and off farm holdings of 131 million bushels are up 29% from last year.
Soybeans stored in all positions totaled 114 million bushels, up 31% from last year. On-farm stocks of 34.0 million bushels are up 6% from a year ago, and off-farm stocks, at 79.6 million bushels, are up 46% from 2023.
Oats off-farm stocks totaled 744,000 bushels, down 35% from 2023.
Hay stocks on Kansas farms totaled 3.30 million tons on December 1, 2024, down 8% from a year earlier.
Grain storage capacity in Kansas totaled 1.61 billion bushels, unchanged bushels from December 1, 2023. Total grain storage capacity is comprised of 385 million bushels of on-farm storage, unchanged from last year, and 1.22 billion bushels of off-farm storage, unchanged bushels from 2023.
