Over 500 community members gathered this past weekend to celebrate “Daddy Bud Day” with a block party and All-Star basketball game in Salina. The event, held during a busy holiday weekend, saw strong attendance and overwhelming community support, according to organizer James Curtis.
“500 people came out to either the block party or the All-Star Game, which, for a holiday weekend, is amazing,” said Curtis. “Thanks to Salina Shares, my family, and all of the community members and businesses who contributed to making the event a huge success.”
One of the event’s standout moments came courtesy of Salina Police Chief C.J. Wise, who personally manned the grill to serve hundreds of hamburgers and hot dogs to attendees. “Special thanks to Chief Wise of the Salina Police Department for personally grilling the hamburgers and hot dogs for all of the people!” Curtis added.
The Salina Fire Department also made a supportive appearance, further demonstrating the collective effort from local organizations to uplift and serve the community during the event.
Organizers say the turnout and response reinforce the importance of community-centered celebrations, especially those rooted in honoring local family legacies.
