Community Corrections Department Gives Six-Month Update To County Commission
The Saline County Community Corrections Department has been allocated approximately $2.3 million in funding from the Kansas Department of Corrections (KDOC) for the upcoming fiscal year, according to Director Michelle Callum's six-month update to the County Commission.
Callum reported that the funding covers both adult and juvenile services. An additional $39,000 was allocated for prevention dollars, which will go to the Child Abuse Prevention Services (CAPS) in Salina. The department also received a budget enhancement allotment of $238,200, intended for additional personnel and operations expenses.
In her update, Callum announced the implementation of new software for the department's pre-trial division. The software, designed by Catalyst, is specifically tailored for pre-trial programs. It aims to streamline client monitoring and improve communication regarding court appearances and appointments.
The department received permission from the state to reallocate Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) funds to cover the startup costs of the new Catalyst pre-trial program. This change came after discontinuing the use of a previous messaging service called UpTrust.
Callum also reported on the department's current caseload:
- 469 clients on adult intensive supervision probation
- 96 clients in the drug court program
- 131 clients monitored through pre-trial services
- 96 clients in juvenile services
The Community Corrections Department is currently in the process of filling two open positions and preparing for their annual conference, which will feature nationally known keynote speakers and various breakout sessions.
