Combine Fire Destroys Wheat Field in Saline County
On June 15 at 12:35 pm, Saline County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a fire at 4400 East Mentor Road involving a combine owned by Josh Kejr, 33. Four combines were cutting wheat when one operator noticed a fire in the field. In an attempt to contain the blaze, the driver maneuvered the combine to cut around the fire, but the machine stalled and subsequently caught fire.
The incident resulted in the loss of 80 acres of wheat and the destruction of the John Deere S670 combine, valued at over $200,000. Rural Fire District #1 extinguished the blaze. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
