City of Salina Prepares for Incoming Winter Weather

Salina, KS – With a wintry mix of snow expected to impact the region on Tuesday, February 11, and Wednesday, February 12, the City of Salina is taking proactive measures to prepare roadways and ensure public safety.

City crews will pre-treat roads with salt ahead of the storm and remain on standby for additional deployment as conditions develop.

Forecast Overview

Monday Night into Tuesday (February 11)

  • Light, isolated snow showers are expected to begin shortly after midnight, continuing intermittently through the morning.
  • Pavement temperatures may fall below freezing late Monday, creating the potential for slick surfaces on untreated roads.

Tuesday into Wednesday (February 12)

  • Scattered to widespread snowfall is anticipated before dawn Tuesday, with accumulation throughout the day.
  • Road surfaces are projected to remain near or below freezing through Wednesday, leading to possible slick conditions during the morning commute.

Public Safety Advisory

Motorists are advised to exercise caution and allow extra space when driving near city salt trucks, as crews will be actively distributing salt to improve road conditions. Following too closely behind the equipment can present safety risks for both operators and other drivers.
