Boom Goes the Bathroom: Firework Flush Blows Up Park Restroom

SALINA, KS — A public restroom at Indian Rock Park sustained damage Thursday evening after what appears to have been an explosive device—likely a firework—was detonated inside one of the toilets.

According to reports filed with the Salina Police Department, the incident occurred between 5:00 and 6:00 p.m. Witnesses told officers they observed a dark grey Chrysler 300 pull up to the restroom area, where a group of teenagers exited the vehicle and appeared to throw a firework into the toilet. The group then quickly left the scene.

Shortly after, the witnesses inspected the area and found visible damage to the restroom facilities. A police report was filed, and the restrooms have since been temporarily locked, according to those familiar with the situation.

As of this publication, no arrests have been made and the Salina Police Department has not released further details on the investigation. The motive behind the act remains unclear.

The individuals who witnessed the event requested to remain anonymous but expressed disappointment in the incident, noting it was unfortunate that a few individuals had caused damage to a public space meant for the community’s use.
